TOKU: Man Bun Grooming Kit

A traditional twist to the trendy hairstyle of “Man Buns”, TOKU is a grooming kit that wishes to reach out to the male audience and give meaning and the aspect of Japanese warriors within their appearance. The purpose for this project is to encourage a larger perspective of the hairstyle’s origin that is surrounded by the meaning of TOKU, in Japanese meaning “Virtue”, carried from the warriors of Japan, Samurais, and Ronins. All the design within the project is inspired by the details of Japanese weaponry and traditional Japanese patterns. Along with strong grungy and bold designs, all different variations of man buns were personified associating with sword styles used in the Edo period.
